Dylan Sharkey, from Granville, Ohio, is a member of Oak 6 in NCCC’s Class 19. He arrived in Vinton on February 5, 2013, to start his 10-month service term on a team of people between the ages of 18 and 24. Oak 6 is made up of seven people from across the country, and they are serving together in a number of service projects across the North Central Region throughout their term.

Jane Hrabak earns honors in State Fair Beginner's Food Contest

DES MOINES, IA (08/13/2013)(readMedia)-- Alisa Link of Des Moines earned First Place Overall in the Food Department Beginner's Contest judged Sunday at the 2013 Iowa State Fair. Pat Becker of Cumberland won Second Place Overall. Third Place Overall was awarded to Jane M. Hrabak of Belle Plaine. The contest was open to adults competing in the Iowa State Fair Food Department for the first time.

AmeriCorps NCCC members help PTO revitalize Shellsburg playground area

PTO volunteers and AmeriCorps members helped improve the Shellburg play area. By: Rebecca Bigler, Marquesha Barrett and Christian Taylor-Williams For two weekends, members from various NCCC teams joined together to revitalize the playground at Shellsburg Elementary School in Shellsburg, Iowa. Their main goal was to build new playground equipment and improve the aesthetics of the playground to promote a fun atmosphere for the students.

Special Programs to Honor Veterans at the 2013 Iowa State Fair

On Monday, August 12, the Iowa State Fair will honor active and retired military with special Veterans' Day programming and discounts throughout the day. "Nothing Compares" to the Iowa State Fair, August 8-18. New this year, the Fair will be honoring veterans with discounted gate admission. With a military I.D., retired and active members of the armed forces and¬ their spouses will receive $8 admission at the gate from 7 a.

Citizens State Bank, Oxford Junction offering reward

Citizens State Bank is offering a $5000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the man responsible for the July 30th, 2013robbery of the Citizens State Bank in Oxford Junction, Iowa. At approximately 08:39 am on July 30, 2013 the Citizens State Bank at 101 W Broadway St., Oxford Junction, IA was robbed by a lone white male.
